Art Imitating Bagels
Fancy a slice of Big Apple art and culture? How about a totem pole bagel sculpture!
It was only a matter of time before the beloved bagel was immortalised in the form of 17 foot tall totem sculptures, and what better place than the Big Apple? Swedish artist Hanna Liden has created a series of art installations around downtown NYC. Liden sees the food as both a cultural and metaphorical symbol of the city: “The bagel—a circle with no beginning and no end—is evocative of the eternal cycle of city life. The black spray paint is a romantic tribute to the darkness and grime, which are essential and beautiful characteristics of our city.” That’s deep!
The 2003 Cow Parade saw 150 cow sculptures grazing and lolling throughout Dublin. Why not an exhibition featuring the culinary delights of our proud and fruitful nation? Here’s my pitch… a sculpture of King Kong atop the Spire with a giant pint of Guinness. It’s only a matter or time….
